How to avoid hidden moving charges before booking a mover
“Hidden charges” often begin as missing scope rather than a mysterious fee. A customer assumes one service is included, while the quotation was based on another scope. The best protection is to ask specific questions and get the answer in writing.
Packing scope
Ask whether packing is included for all rooms and whether cartons, wrapping, tape and protective material are included. Special items such as large mirrors, heavy appliances or delicate glass may require different handling.
Stairs and lift access
Tell the mover the floor number at both ends and whether a working lift is available. If manual carrying is required, the labour requirement may differ from a normal lift-access move.
Long carry and truck parking
A truck may have to park away from the building entrance because of society rules, narrow roads or restricted parking. Ask how such access will be handled and whether any additional labour is expected.
Dismantling and reassembly
Bed frames, wardrobes, tables and office furniture may need dismantling. Confirm which items are included. Specialist electrical, plumbing, carpentry or appliance installation should not be assumed to be included in a normal moving quotation.
Additional stops and storage
If you need collection from two addresses, temporary storage or a second delivery, mention it before booking. Changing the route after the vehicle is loaded can affect cost and scheduling.
Taxes and optional services
Ask whether the quoted amount includes applicable taxes and identify optional services separately. A clean quotation should let you understand the base moving scope and any selected extras.
Use a written quotation as the reference
Before paying an advance, make sure the quotation identifies the service scope. Keep the final quotation and payment record. If the inventory or scope changes later, ask for the revised amount before the additional work is performed.

- What happens if the society changes the allotted slot?
The objective is not to eliminate every possible change. It is to make sure any change is understandable and agreed rather than surprising.
