Moving day checklist for a Gurgaon home shift

Before the crew arrives

• Keep your ID, keys, property papers, jewellery, medicines, cash and electronics that you personally carry separate.
• Keep the latest quotation and contact number accessible on your phone.
• Confirm the service-lift booking, gate entry and truck parking.
• Keep a basic tool/utility pouch, phone chargers and drinking water.
• Make sure children and pets are away from active loading areas.

Walk the home once

Before packing starts, walk through every room, balcony, loft, store and utility area. Show the team items that are fragile, already damaged or not included in the move. Photograph valuable or delicate surfaces if you want a record of their pre-move condition.

Check hidden storage areas because lofts and cabinets are easy to overlook when several people are working quickly.

Keep a personal essentials bag

Do not bury your first-night essentials inside the moving truck. Keep clothes, toiletries, medicines, chargers, important papers, basic utensils and any child-specific essentials with you. If you are travelling separately from the truck, keep this bag in your personal vehicle or carry it with you.

During packing

Let the packing team work systematically. Ask questions when something is unclear, but avoid repeatedly moving half-packed cartons between rooms. Fragile items should be identified and packed according to their material and shape. Appliances may need preparation before wrapping, especially refrigerators and washing machines.

During loading

Confirm that cartons and bulky items are being taken from the correct rooms. If you have a packing list, use it as the reference rather than relying on memory. Photograph unusually valuable items before loading if appropriate. Do not allow unauthorised people to enter the loading area.

At the destination

Before the team unloads everything, identify which room should receive each major group of cartons. Check the lift route, floor protection requirements and parking/access arrangement. If furniture needs reassembly, point out the intended placement before the crew begins.

Before the truck leaves

Do a final empty-home walkthrough. Open every cupboard, loft and balcony storage area. Check the meter area, utility spaces and parking/storage rooms. At the destination, keep the moving documentation and delivery confirmation safely filed.

After unloading

Do not try to unpack the entire house immediately. Start with the essentials, kitchen basics and bedrooms. Keep cartons grouped so the packing list remains useful. Note any issue promptly and contact the moving coordinator with the relevant document or photographs.

Keep the paperwork together

Use one folder on your phone for the quotation, inventory or packing list, payment record, mover contact, society approval and any vehicle or delivery details. If the move is intercity, keep the bilty/lorry receipt with the other documents rather than depending on a single WhatsApp message.
