Documentation
Insurance and moving services are related but not identical. Before an intercity move, understand what cover is being arranged, who provides it, and what documents the claim process may require.
In detail
Before booking, ask for the applicable policy or coverage details, exclusions, declared value requirements and the process for reporting damage or loss.
If a policy requires declared values or item details, provide accurate information and keep your supporting records such as invoices, photographs or serial numbers where relevant.
Quotation, packing list, bilty/lorry receipt, invoice and delivery records may all help establish the facts of a claim, depending on the policy.
If goods arrive damaged or an item is missing, document the condition and notify the relevant party promptly. Follow the insurer’s stated claim procedure.
Worth knowing
Insurance coverage, exclusions and claim decisions depend on the actual policy and insurer. We do not promise claim approval or a particular settlement amount.
Questions
Do not assume that. Ask what coverage, if any, applies to your specific move and request the relevant terms before relying on it.
Keep the quotation, packing list, consignment record, invoice, delivery records and photographs or purchase records for relevant items where available.
The insurer or responsible claims authority decides the claim according to the applicable policy and evidence.
Photograph the condition, preserve relevant packaging where practical, note the issue on the delivery record where possible, and follow the insurer or claims contact’s reporting instructions.
Get in touch
Transit insurance is a separate risk-management subject from the moving quotation. Customers should review the actual policy or coverage terms, exclusions, limits, documentation requirements and claim process rather than relying on a verbal statement that goods are simply “insured”.
Where insurance is arranged, the declared goods and values should be handled according to the applicable policy process. Keep invoices, purchase records, photographs or other evidence that may be relevant to the stated terms.
A mover can explain the documentation and process available for a shipment, but the applicable insurer or policy terms determine coverage and claim decisions. Avoid assuming that every type of loss or damage is automatically covered.
The quotation, packing list, Bilty / Lorry Receipt, invoice, payment record and delivery confirmation can form part of the supporting transaction file. Additional documents may be required under the applicable policy.
If the shipment contains fragile, high-value or unusual items, clarify the available coverage and documentation before loading. Written confirmation is preferable to relying on assumptions made during a phone conversation.
